Survival of Vibrio parahaemolyticus in fish homogenate during storage at low temperatures.
Fish homogenate inoculated with Japanese strains of Vibrio parahaemolyticus were either stored at 0.6 C or frozen and stored at -18 and -34 C. Greater survival of the organisms was obtained at 0.6 C than at the lower temperatures.

متن کاملSurvival of Vibrio parahaemolyticus at low temperatures under starvation conditions and subsequent resuscitation of viable, nonculturable cells.
Morphological changes of Vibrio parahaemolyticus from rods to spheres took place after a culture was subjected to starvation at a wide range of temperatures. Scanning electron micrographs revealed that starved spherical cells gradually developed a rippled cell surface with blebs and an extracellular filamentous substance adhesive to the cell surface. Cells starved at a low temperature for certa...
متن کاملSurvival of Vibrio anguillarum and Vibrio salmonicida at different salinities.
The fish pathogenic bacteria Vibrio anguillarum and V. salmonicida showed the capacity to survive for more than 50 and 14 months, respectively, in seawater microcosms. A salinity of 5% proved lethal to V. anguillarum harvested in the late-exponential growth phase, whereas a salinity of 9% was lethal to the bacterium after it had been starved at a salinity of 30% for 67 days. The lethal salinity...
متن کاملReductions of Vibrio parahaemolyticus in Pacific oysters (Crassostrea gigas) by depuration at various temperatures.
Consumption of raw oysters has been linked to several outbreaks of Vibrio parahaemolyticus infection in the United States. This study investigated effects of ice storage and UV-sterilized seawater depuration at various temperatures on reducing V. parahaemolyticus in oysters. Raw Pacific oysters (Crassostrea gigas) were inoculated with a mixed culture of five clinical strains of V. parahaemolyti...
